How reading aloud to your pet can improve your child’s confidence

Did you know that many studies have shown that reading to dogs, cats, guinea pigs, birds, or any other pet you may have is also a great way to improve self-confidence, public speaking skills, emotional and social skills for your youngster?

Yes, this is true. Besides the fact that it is adorable, having your child read to your pet(s) - it helps her to develop reading confidence and fluency without judgement.

And research has also shown that reading to dogs or cats has a calming effect on the animals, especially during these times of ongoing social isolation.

So, if you have a pet, I encourage you to have your child read to your family-member. It gives your child a great sense of purpose and strengthens the bond between the two. If you do not have a pet, encourage her read to her favorite stuffed animal. Important is that she develops a love for reading.
