Do dogs love unconditionally?

Having two Pomeranians that I love unconditionally, I was contemplating for a moment because of something I read, if this is truly reciprocatively or do they ‘love’ me, because I am their provider?

Sugar & Cookie live in a safe, warm environment. I prepare their food, I give them water, I bathe them, brush them, and take them on exciting walks. I give them treats, praise them, I talk to them with an affectionate voice, I cuddle with them and pet them. I take them to the vet for checkups and when they feel sick. We have a strong bond between us, as I am fair and compassionate, we trust each other - they are my babies!

Some research I read suggests that if another person would step into my place and do and be exactly as I am with them, they would be as affectionate with that person as they are with me.

Would they - really?

I can see this to be true for an abused dog. For example, if you would give a dog the choice to be with a person that treats her kindly, respects her versus the person that kicks her and shouts at her - she would definitely chose the human who is gentle to her.

But Sugar & Cookie not missing me? Giving their love and affection to a person that would provide to them as I do? I do not think so. I know they would miss my high-pitched voice, when I talk in dog-directed speech to them, preparing their food or getting excited to take them out for a walk.

Their love towards me is as unconditional as my love is for them. Sugar & Cookie have separation anxiety when someone else takes care of them, while I am out-of-town. We have a bond that cannot that easily be replicated. We have a history together; we are part of each other - we are family.
